What is the Memphis Health Jamboree?
The Memphis Health Jamboree is a free, community-wide, culturally rooted health celebration launching in April 2027. It brings together food, movement, music, storytelling, screenings, and hands-on wellness experiences designed with — not just for — the community.
What is the Planning Committee?
The Planning Committee is a working and creative leadership table that helps co-design the Jamboree’s programming, layout, logistics, and community experience. Members contribute insight, feedback, and hands-on support while honoring lived experience as expertise.
Is this a paid position?
No. This is an in-kind, unpaid leadership and service role. We are mindful of capacity and design participation to be respectful of time and energy.
How much time does this require?
Typically one full (45 min) committee meeting per month, plus occasional check-ins. Time commitments may increase slightly closer to the event.
Who can apply?
Memphis residents, community members, creatives, public health students or professionals, cultural workers, technologists, and individuals with lived experience navigating health systems are all encouraged to apply.
Do I need formal public health experience?
No. Lived experience, community knowledge, and cultural insight are valued equally alongside formal training.
Who makes final decisions?
The Founder & Program Developer facilitates shared discussion and voting. Final decision authority is retained by the Founder to ensure clarity, accountability, and alignment with the Jamboree’s mission.
What will I actually help decide or shape?
Committee members help shape:
- Event layout and attendee flow
- Programming and zone activities
- Accessibility, safety, and inclusion considerations
- Community engagement strategies
- Evaluation and learning reflections
Can my role change over time?
Yes. Roles are flexible and may evolve based on interest, capacity, and project needs.
How does this connect to the Crumbs & Culture Tour?
The Crumbs & Culture Tour (2026) serves as a trust-building and pilot phase for the Jamboree. Some Planning Committee members may also support or co-host tour activations, depending on interest and availability.
What happens after I submit the form?
You may be contacted for a short conversation to discuss fit, interest, and capacity. Final committee invitations will be extended in phases.
Thank you for your interest in helping shape a joyful, community-led vision of public health in Memphis!
